SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. --- "We are pleased to announce that the Recreation Commission of the City of Saratoga Springs has accepted youth rugby as a city youth organization. The recreation department of Saratoga Springs will work closely with Saratoga Rugby Club to promote the Saratoga Youth Rugby program to boys and girls ages 6 to 12. The program offers an equal opportunity for all participants to learn new skills, gain more knowledge and develop character through team building activities. We want to create a greater sense of community one with shared goals and values, and the endorsement of the Recreation Commission is a significant step forward us. "
“Youth Rugby aligns with the mission of the Recreation Department, offering another positive and safe program for our children to participate in. The program which doesn’t travel and accepts all participant levels is a model the Recreation Department believes will benefit our community and children” says John Hirliman, Administrative Director of Recreation; City of Saratoga
“Safety is a priority for us, therefore all the games will be played through either flag rugby or two handed touch. The dates for the sessions coincide with the Saratoga Men’s home schedule and it provides a great opportunity for our kids to be exposed to rugby at a higher level,” says Director of Rugby Jaco Visser
The four sessions will be held on September 6 & 27 and October 4 & 27 from 11am to 12noon at Northside Rec., 5 Clement Ave., Saratoga, adjacent to Skidmore College.
Saratoga Rugby Club does not charge the kids for the fall program. However every participant will have to be registered through its governing body, USA Rugby. Parents can visit https://usarugby.org/membership and register under Saratoga Youth Rugby.
