 How did Universal Preservation Hall begin and how long have you been involved?
Universal Preservation Hall is a former Methodist Church that was built in 1871. In 1976, the Methodists sold the building to the Universal Baptist Church who occupied it until 2000. At that time, the building had fallen into very bad disrepair, was condemned and slated for demolition. A group
of caring citizens raised $3 million to salvage and save the building. and the nonprofit UPH was formed. I joined the board in 2006. Became Board President in 2009 until I led the campaign beginning in 2015 for the final restoration of the beautiful UPH.
was smile because I was the leader who hung in there for all these years to make it happen. A very proud and joyful evening for me and my family.
How has music impacted your life?
I have always been a lover of music and play the piano. Going to music concerts of all kinds (but especially jazz) is one of my favorite things to do. I am so grateful to be part of the team that brings all kinds of music to a beautiful venue in the heart of downtown.
What kind of music can one expect to hear at UPH?
Jazz, Classical, Americana, Broadway cabaret, Rock, Blues, world music and more. Also, comedy, children’s programming & circus.

 What’s the cultural scene like in Saratoga?
The cultural scene in Saratoga is vibrant and with the addition of UPH the city has been elevated to a sought after, year-round cultural destination.
What was it like on opening
night after the year and a half renovation?
February 29, 2020 was a most special day with the grand opening of UPH.
