Team celebrates meetings industry day with an economic impact of $67.9 m in Saratoga County
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY—Discover Saratoga was recognized as Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Upstate NY’s partner of the year during their gala on Thursday, April 4 at River Stone Manor. The accolade is presented to a chapter member who has consistently contributed time and experience to upstate New York’s meeting industry.
“I’m honored to be associated with this team of talented industry professionals,” Discover Saratoga President Darryl Leggieri exclaimed. “I’m also very proud of the great work they do throughout the year to serve our members and drive group business to Saratoga Springs.”
The MPI event also honored Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), a national celebration of meeting and convention professionals who advocate for the group travel industry and work to impact their local economies. According to Meetings Mean Business, meetings generate $845 billion for the U.S. economy in a single year.
Saratoga County directly benefits from group business travel as well. In 2018, the county received an estimated economic impact of $67.9 million with a total of 602 conventions and events held in the area. The numbers aren’t just profiting local hoteliers and venues—event-goers shop and dine in our local businesses too. Leading up to GMID, the Discover Saratoga team met with numerous community organizations and businesses to remind them of their influence on the industry in Saratoga.
